How we work

How we make our guides

Every guide starts with a decision someone really has to make. Only when that question is sharp do we go looking for what is needed to answer it.

The question first, then the answer

A guide is built around a problem: which turntable suits how often you listen, how to store records in a small room, what to buy for someone else. Only then do we look at what information is needed to answer it.

That also means a guide can end with the advice to buy nothing. That happens regularly and it stays in.

Where the facts come from

Factual claims come from manufacturer documentation, public technical sources and independent consumer information. Where a guide uses a specific source, it is listed with the article.

We do not publish a guide that would consist only of opinions. If we are not sure of something, it says we are not sure. That reads less smoothly and it is more honest.

Mistakes and corrections

If you see something that is wrong, let us know through the contact form. We correct the text and, for a correction of substance, note at the bottom of the guide what was changed and when.

We do not make criticism disappear by quietly rewriting a page. A correction should be visible, or it is not a correction.

Why commercial links do not change the conclusion

A partner link is chosen after a guide is finished, never before. That way the link fits the advice, instead of the advice fitting the link.

An affiliate link is always recognisable: partner blocks sit in their own frame with the label above, and individual links in the text are marked as such. They are ordinary links; we do not send you through a redirect page of our own first and we do not change the destination. If you buy something through such a link, we may receive a fee that helps us maintain the website; you pay nothing extra. We accept no payment for a positive verdict, and an advertiser never gets to see a guide in advance.

The partner shops are mostly Dutch, also on the English pages, because the site is published from the Netherlands.
